Cash heist in Franschhoek
2008-01-10
RESIDENTS and tourists alike ran for cover on Monday morning, when a shot was fired in the middle of Franschhoek during a cash in transit heist. The armed robbery took place while a Fidelity Guard vehicle was loading cash outside Pick ’n Pay in Main Street, Franschhoek. Eye-witnesses, said two armed men threatened a security guard at gunpoint, forcing him to hand over the metal box containing an undisclosed amount of money and robbed him of his fire-arm. During this a struggle took place and a shot was fired, but no-one was injured. The two robbers then jumped into a green VW Golf in which a third man was waiting and fled the scene. This latest cash in transit heist comes in the wake of two similar heists which took place at supermarkets in Hermanus and Ceres in December.
