I WISH to express my appreciation at the way the Drakenstein Municipality, represented in this instance by Municipal Manager Dr Sidima Kabanyane, handled the removal of twenty (or more) goats that were kept illegally at the municipal depot in Wellington.
Once the matter was finally brought to his attention, Dr Kabanyane chaired a meeting involving the relevant municipal departments and affected neighbours, including myself.
It was quickly established that the goats had been there for a long time and that their presence was definitely in contravention of zoning regulations.
Dr Kabanyane also heard how the owner of the goats repeatedly cut the municipal fencing to chase them out to graze on neighbouring land.
In his summing up of the situation Dr Kabanyane was clear in his finding that the goats must be removed, but also recognised the need for land in the area for small scale farming.
It was pointed out that land has been allocated for these purposes in the Gouda area.
The goats were removed to more suitable land within days.
Thank you to Dr Kabanyane and team for swift and efficient action.
