FOR five exciting days, from January 29, the Spier Poetry Exchange will offer Cape Town audiences a celebration of the word - written, spoken, sung and even explored on screen, bringing together 14 inspired solo performances and four collaborative productions by local and international wordsmiths - both on and off the Spier Estate.
This is the first of three Spier Arts Festivals, which represent the re-birth of the Spier Arts Summer Season under the umbrella of the Africa Centre.
• On view until 20 February is the Spier Contemporary art exhibtion featuring 90 of South Africa’s top artists with paintings, sculptures, photographs, prints, installations and performance arts from 10:00 to 19:00 daily. Entrance is free.
• Visitors to Spier can enjoy a selection of the best art pieces by a group of talented Western Cape crafters. Curated by the Cape Craft and Design Institute, the ICONIC craft exhibition showcases close on 100 crafted art pieces from Icon crafters nominated during 2004 and 2005, as well as those by aspiring Icons.
