THE Deciduous Fruit Producers Trust (DFPT) has launched the Deciduous Fruit Development Chamber to ensure feasible and sustainable integration of emerging producers into existing industry structures.
The main purpose of the DFDC is to act as a representative body of emerging farmers and to create mechanisms within the deciduous fruit industry to strategically expedite their integration into the mainstream economy and formal industry structures.
They hope to bridge the knowledge gap between commercial and emerging farmers; promote fair practices; promote better communication with and by emerging farmers; and to enhance utilisation of resources and services by emerging farmers with the support from the existing industry service capacity, resources and expertise. The DFPT will provide secretarial and financial management support to the Chamber.
They can also identify investment/land reform opportunities and apply for appropriate funding for its members to expand their production/plantings.
The local representative is William Myburgh of Pniel, with Trevor Abrahams of Ceres as chairperson. He can be contacted on 0 023-312-3569 or 084-525- 5037.
