MADE with hand-picked grapes from 35-year-old vines, Bellingham The Maverick Chenin Blanc 2006 is staying true to its heritage, racking up another in a string of accolades.
The wine is the second finalist in the Best Chenin Overall category of the Wine Magazine Chenin Blanc Challenge 2008.
Launched in 2002, Maverick wines celebrate the independent thinking and pioneer spirit of founder Bernard Podlashuk.
“Chenin Blanc is one of the most enduring cultivars and has been enjoyed for decades by local and international wine lovers.
“Bellingham The Maverick Chenin Blanc continues this tradition with the 2006 vintage,” said winemaker Niël Groenewald.
According to Niël the long history of Chenin Blanc in South Africa together with the wide range of flavour profiles give winemakers the latitude to create, literally, “new wine from old vines”.
Previous vintages of The Maverick Chenin Blanc have consistently been in the winner’s circle at international wine awards, with the 2005 being declared a “super Chenin” by Wine Magazine.
Awards already racked up by The Maverick Chenin Blanc 2006: are Decanter Wine Awards (silver), International Wine & Spirit Challenge (Silver & Best in Class), Michelangelo International Wine Awards (Gold), Winemakers Choice Awards (Diamond Award), South African Airways 2008 (Premium Class),
Wine Magazine Chenin Blanc Challenge 2008 Second Finalist, Best Chenin Blanc overall category).
