Music for summer

TWO of South Africa’s most established concert soloists, James Grace (classical guitar) and pianist Christopher Duigan, join forces for a evening of music featuring the combination of piano and guitar.

This programme is presented for one performance only in the NGK Church in Franschhoek on Saturday at 19:00.

The two have been collaborating on this innovative project for some time and now local music lovers will have an opportunity to experience their unique presentation first hand.

With both instruments performing comfortably in a solo capacity and neither taking the obvious melodic lead, the interplay is one of equals.

With little original repertoire composed for this combination of piano and guitar, the performers, playing electro-acoustic guitar and concert grand piano, have devised and continue to improvise much of the content of the performance from many different musical genres resulting in spontaneous and flexible presentation.

Their programme will include items from the Latin world such as Black Orpheus, Tico Tico, Piazzolla’s Libertango and Oblivion as well as contemporary pieces by Richard Guines and the flamenco inspired La Fiesta.

Original composition for the combination include Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s Fantasia as well as the Cavatina as used in the film The Deer Hunter.

Tickets for this performance are R100.

Call 021876- 3603.

Tickets are also available at the door.
