Cosmos back on track
2008-01-31
ALTHOUGH things have not been all sweet for Cosmos this season, it seems as if the team from Mbekweni have finally found their feet in the Vodacom League Second Division. During the last three weeks, Cosmos have played three matches. Having lost their match the previous weekend, Cosmos was set to meet with UWC Provincial Academy on Wednesday 16 January. Positioned at the bottom of the log, UWC was just the opposition Cosmos needed. A 2-1 victory over the home team saw Cosmos getting back on track. On 19 January, Cosmos played Battswood at the Shelly Street grounds. Cosmos had no sympathy for their opponents and beat them comfortably with 3-1. Nfunda Cetman was Cosmos’s best player. He scored three goals. Cosmos’s other goal was scored by Mara Maxamda. On Saturday, Cosmos played a home game against Nelson’s AFC. Once again Cosmos went on a goal scoring spree, managing to beat the team from Stellenbosch 4-1. For the home team, M Ketwa played brilliantly. Ketwa scored a hat-trick of goals while L Totoyi also added one to the list. The owner of Cosmos, Boyce Godlo, feels that even if they don’t come out on top this season, it is important that they at least find their feet at this level. “Remember, this is only our first season in this league. We need to settle at this level, and our last few games are the perfect platform for this opportunity. “As long as we are competitive, we can build on our results to challenge for the championships next season.” * Tomorrow, Cosmos takes on Ajax Cape Town II at the Ikamva soccer stadium in Parow.
