EXCELLENT police work led to the swift arrest of three young men for the murder of an elderly wo-man in Franschhoek.
The body of Adriana de Korte (81) was discovered by shocked neighbours in her garage last Tuesday evening, five days after she was last seen alive.
She had been bludgeoned to death with a blunt instrument and presumably raped.
Police closed off Van Wijk Street and scoured the area with a fine tooth comb for any clues which would identify the murderers.
On Tuesday morning, the trail led them to three youths from Groendal, who were appearing in the Paarl Magistrate’s Court on charges of housebreaking a week before.
They were arrested and appeared in court the following day.
The youths, all under the age of eighteen, appeared in court again yesterday on charges of murder, rape and housebreaking.
They are currently being kept behind lock and key at a youth facility.
De Korte had lived in Franschhoek for the past eighteen years and had recently sold her beautiful Cape-style home to return to her homeland, the Netherlands. She would have left the country in March.
