Paarl Rotary forges ahead
2005-06-23
CHUBBY and Lindy Howell took over as the presidential couple of the Rotary Club of Paarl from Walter and Jill Finlayson at an induction dinner held on Tuesday evening.
The Howells moved to the Drakenstein area four years ago form Pretoria, when Chubby retired as a Rear Admiral from the SA Navy.
They decided to drop anchor on a small farm in Windmeul, bordering Rhebokskloof. Here they farm with figs, lavender, rosemary and lemon grass from which they still their own essential oil.
Chubby’s objectives for his year as president are to promote better co-operation between all the service clubs and organisations in the area as well as with the Drakenstein Municipality, and to complete the Care Centre presently under construction on the Salvation Army site.
More than a million Rand still needs to be raised for the latter. The club is confident however that, with the assistance of the community and hard work, they will achieve it.
Despite the inclement weather, construction on the site of the new centre is proceeding apace.
