Decade of movie magic for MiniMax

Decade of movie magic for MiniMax

2008-02-07

TEN years ago, during an unforgettable James Bond theme party in New Street, Paarl’s very own cinema theatre MiniMax was officially opened by well-known film critic Leon van Nierop.

A decade later, MiniMax remains Paarl’s only venue where locals can enjoy movies on the “big screen” with the wonderful smell of popcorn which is synonymous with the whole movie experience.

The cinema industry has suffered over the last few years, with the increasing popularity of home theatre, but Molly Minitzer, owner of MiniMax, says that going to the movies is still a unique entertainment experience.

“MiniMax is a great asset to Paarl and locals should support it,” she says.

“There is a huge school population, many of these being hostel children, and MiniMax offers them healthy weekend entertainment.”

Regular movie-goers will notice a friendly new face, Peter Ralph. He is the new manager who has taken over the reins from Charl Reeders.

Peter has been in the film industry since 1979 and combines his passion for movies with his love for working with people.

Another staff member who has been manager at MiniMax since day one, is Gerswin Williams, who “fights tooth and nail” to get hold of the latest releases for the Paarl audiences!

Discount

Many national cinemas offer discounted tickets to Edgars card holders and Discovery Vitality members and Molly and her team have come up with a fantastic opportunity that is accessible to all Paarl movie- lovers: come to MiniMax and present your library card and you will get a R10 discount on your movie ticket! That means they charge only R15 for a movie ticket.

MiniMax is situated next to Pasadena Spur in New Street opposite Virgin Active and there is plenty of parking in the new upgraded van der Lingen Square parking area.

And there is no need to worry about the power outages - the show will always go on at MiniMax since they installed a large generator to keep the cameras rolling.

So, why not make the best of the next “blackout” and head off to the movies - just don’t forget your library card!
