Dealing with criminals is everyone's job

Dealing with criminals is everyone's job

2008-02-07

CRIMINALS live among us as our neighbours, our children, our friends and our parents.

When children bring stolen items home, the parents look the other way and say unashamedly, without blinking an eye, “uyazama”, “uyatabalaza” meaning he is trying, what else must he/she do, there is no work.

We are all hungry. But you and I as citizens also have a role to play in stopping violence, rape and mugging.

We can name and shame those we know to be involved in criminal activities. We don’t really need the government to do that for us.

You chose to do nothing about it, which means you are creating a comfortable environment for criminals.
