ON Sunday, Neotel Yorkshire and Rhadsport Cycling Academies lined up for the Medallion Tour de Stellenbosch Pedal Power League event,where Brandon Christians shone.
This was the third event in the Summer League Series.
The senior scholars league took off for their 100km event through Stellenbosch, Paarl, Klapmuts and back.
The senior bunch scattered on the steep Helshoogte Pass and at the top of the climb there was a breakaway group that included Brandon Christians (Neotel Rhadsport).
At the summit the gap between the leaders and the bunch was 35 seconds.
The chasing bunch included Avery Arendse (Neotel Yorkshire), Clint Hendricks and Robin November (Neotel Rhadsport).
At the 75km mark the gap increased to 3 minutes. It was certain that the leading group would not be caught.
In the end it was Wayne Botha (Chris Willemse Tygerberg ) who outsprinted Johan van Zyl (second) to finish first. Brandon Christians managed to finish in a well deserved third place. Arendse and Hendricks finished fourth and sixth.
In the junior scholars league the new member of the Neotel Yorkshire Club, JC Jantjies, unexpected won the 66km event.
Jantjies is a member of the great Janjies family who rode for Boland in the 60’s and 70’s.
