SASOL’s New Signatures Competition, which has evolved into one of the most progressive art competitions in South Africa, is currently underway.
The competition offers prize money of R60 000 and presents unique opportunities for emerging young artists to advance their careers and gain local and international recognition.
Sponsored by Sasol for the past 15 years, in partnership with the Association of Arts Pretoria, New Signatures is open to all emerging South African artists.
To ensure easy access to the competition for all entrants around the country, artists will be able to enter their works at six different nationwide venues and on the internet.
Artists who are older than 18 years, are invited to submit one or two art works via the internet at www.sasolsignatures.co.za between 1 June and 12 July.
They can also submit works at the Dorp Street Gallery, 176 Dorp Street, Stellenbosch on 11 and 12 July (tel 887-2256).
The competition’s judges will review all artistic works and invite those artists who have met the grade to transport their works to the Pretoria Art Museum.
These works will be displayed at the museum’s Sasol New Signatures Exhibition from 3 August to 15 September.
The collection will also be displayed on the Internet for viewing by art enthusiasts and for purchasing by collectors. (www.sasolsignatures. co.za).
The winning entry will receive prize money of R50 000, while the runner-up will be awarded R10 000.
Artists who win merit awards will receive a copy of Sasol’s recently published art book, Art @ Work, which features some 120 artists whose works are housed in the company’s art collection.
Entry forms can be obtained from the Association of Arts Pretoria, the collection points or the internet at www.sasolsignatures.co.za
