Tour de Boland ready to roll

2008-02-14

THE second edition of the Tour de Boland Cycle Tour starts today, in and around Paarl, and will carry on until Saturday.

The three-day event will definitely be a test for cyclists and some exciting routes are on the cards this year.

The event is also open to all junior cyclists.

In this year’s tour riders will experience all aspects of road cycling - flats, hills and an individual time trial.

Today cyclists will compete on a 13km circuit outside Wellington which starts at Florida Farm Stall on the R45. Cyclists have to complete the circuit 10 times before they finish at the farm stall. The first stage starts at 09:00 and riders can register at 07:30.

Tomorrow, cyclists will tackle a 130km course that will start at Ivanhoe Park, Klein Drakenstein Road in Paarl East.

Riders will pedal to Wemmershoek, Simondium, Klapmuts, Voor-Paardeberg, Wellington and back to Paarl, where they will have an awesome finish on the top of Du Toit’s Kloof Pass.

Racing will start at 09:00 and cyclists can register from 07:30 at Ivanhoe Park.

On Saturday cyclists will line up for the third and final stage at the same circuit as stage one. Cyclists will compete against the clock for 26km. They will complete two laps of the circuit.

The first cyclists will start at 10:00. Riders can register at the Florida Farm Stall from 08:45.

To cater for the younger riders the organisers are also hosting events on Saturday for u.10, u.12, u.14 and u.16 riders.

These events will start at 08:40 and riders who wish to participate in these events can enter on the day at the Florida Farm Stall from 07:45.
