PICNIC festival takes place from 22 to 24 February at the beautiful Bien Donné Farm in Simondium, on the R45 between Paarl and Franschhoek, with a host of well-known performers on stage. The festival will be opened on Friday 22 February with a sunset concert by top South African performer, Theuns Jordaan and his band. Pre-show by Eclips will start at 18:00. Theuns will include all his best hits like Bloed, Jou Asem, Beautiful in Beaufort West and his popular medleys. On Saturday visitors will be entertained with live background music throughout the day from 11:00 to 21:00. Students will receive a special R30 discount on presentation of a valid student card on Saturday only. During the day you will rock to the sounds of Jo Nicol, Eclips, Gian Groen and Skallabrak. At sunset the tempo slows down to set the mood for the evening concert, a Tribute to Pavarotti and more. The sunset concert is performed by South Africa’s own “Pavarotti e Pocco” or “Little Pavarotti”, the award winning Kevin Leo, accompanied by his 2-piece acoustic band. The 90 minute performance starts at 20:00 and includes a tribute to Pavarotti and songs like Brindisi (drinking song from La Traviata), Funiculi Funicula, O Sole mio, Santa Lucia, Always on my mind, Mona Lisa, My Way as well as some Afrikaans songs such as Loshande die beste, Stap saam met my, Se C’est la Vie en Liefling. Show is approximately 90 minutes. Sunday is the big family day and includes live back-ground music from 11:00 to 18:00. Visitors will enjoy the acoustic sounds of guitars, violins and accordions while parents relax and children play. Tickets for Sunday are R50 (children 12 and under no charge when accompanied by parents). Toddlers can enjoy the supervised kids area and activities on Saturday and Sunday while parents take a well deserved break. There is also a mini fun park for the youngsters. Bring blankets, chairs and umbrellas. No picnic baskets, food or drinks will be allowed at the gates as visitors can buy all their picnic bites, food as well as wine from the stalls.
