MORE than 200 000 athletes in the Boland are currently participating in the eliminating rounds of the senior, junior and youth Track and Field athletics events.

More than 1000 of the best primary school athletes were identified to compete at the Boland Primary School Championships which take place on Saturday at the Dal Josaphat Stadium.

Also on Saturday the penultimate eliminating rounds for High School athletes will take place in the six Boland regions. About 6000 high school athletes will try to qualify to compete at the Boland Junior and High School Champion-ships that will take place at the Dal Josaphat Stadium in Paarl from 29 February to 1 March.

On Friday and Saturday the joint Boland Athletics/Western Province Senior Athletics Champ­ionships will take place at the Bellville Stadium in Bellville.

Senior athletes will attempt to qualify respectively for the Boland and Western Province teams for the 2008 Yellow Pages SA Senior Track and Field Championships, a qualifier for the 2008 Olympic Games.
