WE recently spent a couple of glorious days in Paarl, wondering around the streets, enjoying the local ambience, and taking in the interesting heritage and history of the town.
We understand that there is a serious move afoot by certain developers to destroy vineyards along the Main Street to make way for modern housing.
This charming street is irreplaceable. It is imperative that you fight such development with their last breaths.
Do not allow your vineyards and charm to be swallowed up by the greed of a few developers.
They will try to woo, bribe and confuse your Municipality to get their plans passed; stay together and gather all the powerful people in your town and fight them. It may take a long time, but your children will thank you in the end.
Your town is special, it is one of the loveliest in the entire Cape - don’t be fooled into believing what the developers say.
Tourists come from all over the world toadmire what you have - vineyards and not modern housing develoments. And support your local Heritage Committee.
Good luck - you lucky people - living in such a pearl of a place!
