I would like to warn about a survey being done in the Drakenstein area.
A vehicle with a Gauteng registration number is doing the rounds in Paarl, in particular the Green Hill (Groenheuwel) area testing children between the ages of 2 to 14 years for HIV, apparently without counselling these children or parents and even without the knowledge of some parents.
In my opinion the SAPS should look into this matter and the public should be warned against the testing of children without counselling.
A letter was found in some residents’ mailboxes after the people in the Gauteng vehicles were confronted by some members of the public.

Sean Jooste, Research Specialist, Social Aspects of HIV/AIDS and Health (SAHA) at the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC): The HSRC conducted research in the Groenheuwel area. A team of retired nurses visited this area between 15 and 17 January. The focus of the study was to select households with children aged 2 to 14 years of age to get permission to conduct the study. The study was stopped in February as the goals of the study were achieved.
