I WOULD like to express my sincere appreciation to Drakenstein Town Council for hosting the SA Local Government Association’s provincial assembly in Paarl. Apart from the challenging (hot) weather, I enjoyed the stay immensely and will undoubtedly return with my familyF.
It’s just a pity that this event was some- what overshadowed by the short sightedness of one of your councillors expressing him/herself in Paarl Post at the time of the conference (“Paartie stop nooit nie”).
Indeed the matter of the financial state of affairs of Salga leaves a lot to be desired, but surely Drakenstein cannot answer for this.
According to my calculations we were at least a hundred delegates who stayed over in your lovely town for the two day event.
Expenses ranged from meals, fuel and accommodation. Multiply this by one hundred. Not a bad “party”. At least R250 000 for two days “partying” went directly into the local economy.
