AN Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is being conducted for the proposed Kappa substation and associated infrastructure near Ceres in the Witzenberg Municipality in the Western Cape.
The growing demand for electricity is placing increasing pressure on Eskom’s existing power generation and transmission capacity.
Due to Eskom’s planned increase in distribution of electricity supply, the need for the new Kappa 400 kV substation has been identified.
During the EIA, Eskom’s land negotiators will be visiting landowners to discuss the acquisition of land for substation construction. Landowners will be compensated for their land. Eskom may commence with the construction phase early in 2009.
Should anyone wish to participate in the EIA, contact Anelle Odendaal at tel (011) 254-4855.
