THE Drakenstein Council will dispose of a number of antique firearms by donating them to the Paarl Museum and will de-register these weapons from the Asset Register with the SAPS and they will be deactivated.
This was a recommendation approved last week at the Mayoral Committee meeting.
The disestablished Municipality Paarl had a collection of antique firearms collection, which was registered with the South African Police (SAPS).
Annually the SAPS would conduct an audit of the firearms in Council’ possession. In the previous year the SAPS recommended that Council should dispose of these firearms.
These weapons have no monetary value for Council. Even if Council can decide to auction them they will not fetch a value.
* Council also approved the payment of a pro rata bonus to 29 temporary employees whose services to Council is twelve consecutive months or more. According to Council it is difficult to quantify the monetary value of the attached schedule as the pro rata bonus varies from employee to employee. Some general workers cleaning of the civic centre and others are on data cleansing projects.
