VINEYARDS dampened the confidence of the senior Paarl regional rugby side last Wednesday night after defeating them 15-12 at Faure Street. This shortly before the regional side are to face SK Walmers. The men in maroon played a near perfect game and dominated in all aspects. A welcomed return to hooker, Junaid Moerat sparked Vineyards’ forward pack who, at times, looked as if they were unstoppable. Vineyards’ tries were scored by Anwar-shuhail Moerat (wing), Amaar Moerat (flank) and Ricky Carelse (fly-half). The 18-year-old Amaar Moerat was named man of the match. On Saturday, Vineyards played the main game at the Mbekweni Easter tournament against Uitenhage from the Super League in Eastern Cape. Vineyards won the game 20-12. Mziyanda Klaaste (flank), Shukri Moerat (centre), Anwar- Shuhail Moerat (wing) and Thaamir Moerat (flank) scored Vineyards’ tries. * On Sunday, Vineyards are playing Rangers at the Boland summer festival at Dal Josaphat Stadium. Junior teams will start at 11:00 with the main game kicking off at 16:00.
