Panjazz concert in Paarl

Panjazz concert in Paarl

2008-03-27

MUSICIANS from Brookfield Community School and Portchester Community School in the United Kingdom are staying in the Manyano Centre in Paarl and are rehearsing daily at the Frank Pietersen Music Centre with the choir members from Paarl

The group will be performing tomorrow at 19:00 at Nelson’s Creek Wine Estate, Paarl.

Tickets are R40 (children R25).

There will be three ensembles: a Jazz Orchestra, a Steel Orchestra, as well as the Panjazz Project which is exploring areas of interest between these two genres.

The two very different styles of music blend together in an amazing fusion. The exotic, relaxed sounds of the steel pans combine with the powerful feel of brass instruments and Western jazz rhythms.

The South Africa Panjazz Project is a crucial component of a unique school-based partnership bringing together students/learners and teachers from communities in the Western Cape and United Kingdom.

This international partnership seeks to develop international links between schools and musicians from a variety of cultural traditions and backgrounds, capturing the talents, joy and hope expressed by learners from both continents.
