Laughs, sports and fun at Boland Summer Festival

2008-03-27

THIS year is a Leap Year and not only do you get a longer summer and an extended February, you also get to enjoy a weekend of laughs, sports and family entertainment at the Boland Summer Festival in Paarl.

This year’s event is packed full of great activities to help you “leap” back into your days of youthful living.

Come 28, 29 and 30 March and you will indeed be “square” if you find yourself any place else than the Dal Josaphat Stadium in Paarl!

Over and above the festivities and fundraising, the event also promotes a family atmosphere where people can come together in a safe and crime-free environment to enjoy this beautiful Drakenstein Valley.

Especially the youth are encouraged to attend the event in order for them to enjoy life the way it is supposed to.

“They should be getting their ‘highs’ on the Tornado or Ferris Wheel at the Fun Fair and get their adrenalin pumping alongside the rugby field, not through smoking crystals in a pipe,” Yoesrie Abrahams, festival convenor said.

“We hope through these ventures to restore relationships between parents and kids by providing a vehicle where they can find common ground and relate.

We aim to promote family time which will hopefully keep our kids in our homes and off the streets,” Abrahams emphasised.

One of the secrets of this festival’s success is the fact that it continues to amuse both young and old alike.

“The way we do this is by actively seeking new and entertaining events, thereby keeping the festival full of surprises.

“For example, in 2005 we brought the South African Na-

tional Circus featuring “the man in a bottle” to Paarl, in 2006 we hosted the Western Cape Interschools “Clash of the Titans Athletics”, in 2007 we introduced a “Car Sound-Off Competition” and now in 2008 we will be launching the very first “Boland Championships Horse Show,” Abrahams said..
