I am a resident of Mbekweni and concerned about the load shedding.
According to my knowledge, Mbekweni is part of Paarl and the load shedding time slots in Paarl are between 16:00 and 18:15 on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. On Tuesday, the power did not come back on in Mbekweni as was indicated on the schedule.
Mbekweni’s power came back after 19:00.
I witnessed that the other areas which fall under Paarl had the power on at the correct time as was on the schedule.
This happened again on Saturday, when the power was off as usual from 16:00 and on at 18:15, except again for Mbekweni which had its power off till 20:00.
What concerns me is why it is only Mbekweni that stays in the dark for more hours in the Paarl area?
Is it because the Municipality does not care about the residents of Mbekweni or is there another reason?
I think that if the power must be cut for longer than two hours it must not only apply to Mbekweni, but to Paarl as a whole.
Concerned Mbekweni residentA municipal spokesperson responds: The electricity to all areas is switched on at the same time. However, sometimes a switch trips, leaving some areas without power after the scheduled time. Residents are advised to phone the municipality if their power remains off after the scheduled loadshedding period.
