A DRAKENSTEIN town councillor, Charlotte Nomthandazo Stemela (51), passed away on Thursday last week after a short illness. Stemela was the mother of six and the only breadwinner in her family. She had been an ANC councillor since the inception of the democratic town council in 1995. Her youngest daughter Siphelele (14) said this week that she had had the best mother she could ever have asked for. “Nobody would ever be able to love me the way she did. She could always see when there was something wrong with any of her children, then she would talk to you and be a shoulder to lean on,” said a heartbroken Siphelele. Zinzo Mthini, ANC councillor at Cape Winelands District Municipality and good friend of Stemela said that the ANC has lost a committed leader. “I have known her for 26 years. She was a dedicated member. Even during her sickess she still went to council meetings,” Mthini said. “She was one of the best community builders.” The funeral service will take place on Saturday from 08:00 at the Anglican Church in Mbekweni.
