I I AM passionate about recycling, but it seems that most people are oblivious to the fact that we are running out of natural resources. It is perceived as a far away problem that will never reach Paarl.
I decided to contact Drakenstein Municipality to find out where I could deposit my enormous collection of newspaper, plastics and tins collected over the past months.
My call was redirected to four different departments, but alas, nobody could help. With my fully loaded vehicle, I set off to the solid waste site.
Great was my disappointment when my enquiries were met with a shake of the head.
Paarl must be very fortunate to have a Landfill Site that can accommodate all these valuable recyclable materials that are just dumped, without any regard for the environment and future generations.
I will continue to encourage my family to recycle in the hope that this matter will be addressed sooner than later.
Other municipalities have made a great success of their recycling programs.
