IT is very sad when someone passes away and no-one commemorates him/her.
The late councillor Nomthandazo Stemela grew up in Mbekweni and had fought many battles to improve the lives of the poor in the township.
She was involved in many structures such as sport, Sanco, ANC and eventually a councillor.
It is very disturbing to see that the structures in which the councillor has served, could not put aside their differences and arrange a respectful memorial service for the councillor.
The structures have failed; they have failed themselves; failed the councillor; failed the family and most importantly, failed the community.
The councillor was a respected figure who did not deserve a quiet mourning like this.
I think people need to talk with their consciences and try to do things right.
This is an embarrassment and an insult to the community.
