See Bakers Mini Cricket set a world record

IT’S full steam ahead for the Bakers Mini Cricket 25 years’ anniversary event on Thursday 15 May from 13:00. The public is invited to join Bakers and Cricket South Africa (CSA) on the day to cheer on the kids as they make history by setting a new Guinness World Record for the most number of children playing cricket at one time. At 14:00, six thousand children will take to the fields at the Wanderers, Newlands, Boland Park Paarl, Willowmore Park, De Beers Diamond Oval, Kingsmead), St Georges and Pretoria’s SuperSport Park to mark the 25 year achievement. According to former Protea Cricket captain, Shaun Pollock, “Bakers Mini Cricket is a terrific grassroots concept which enables youngsters to grasp the basics of this great game we all love,” while Makhaya Ntini adds: “The foundation of South African cricket can be found in Bakers Mini Cricket.” With over 100 000 children, 5 000 schools, 150 administrators and 500 coaches taking part in the programme on an annual basis, Bakers Mini Cricket has made its mark on the cricketing front by producing players including Mark Boucher, Makhaya Ntini, Loots Bosman, JP Duminy, Hashim Amla and Monde Zondeki.
