Vehicle thieves nabbed behind wheel

FIVE men were arrested on Saturday morning for vehicle theft, due to quick and alert response of the Paarl police. At approximately 05:00, police were notified about a Mazda 323 which had been stolen outside Jeff’s Pub in Huguenot. Police officers, Inspectors Jacques Mouton and Mogammet Isaacs, as well as Sergeant Jacques Pietersen, were quick on the scene and followed various leads. Within two hours five men were caught red-handed in the vehicle in Pniel. Enslin Adams, Marshall Pietersen, Ra- zeen Hendricks, Vilesco Marais and Jona- than Julius, all of Paarl East, were arrested. In another incident, five men were arrested in Mbekweni on a charge of housebreaking. Information was received about the suspects who were seen with stolen goods. The Mbekweni police apprehended them in U-blok, and they were caught while sharing presumed stolen groceries. After further investigation of the premises, various tools were also found. It was discovered that these goods, as well as the groceries, had been stolen at a nearby shop. A spokesperson for Paarl police said that theft of motor vehicles and burglaries have slowly risen during the past few weeks. “It is very important that the public take note of this and try and secure their property as well as possible. Police station chief, Director Mzwandile Tiyo, is committed to combating crime. “We will be patrolling the area thoroughly, day and night, but we also need the public’s help in being observant at all times,” he said.
