Street Soccer launch at Dal Josaphat
2008-05-15
A HIGHLY successful Homeless World Cup was held on the Grand Parade in Cape Town last year after talks were held with officials of the Western Cape Street Soccer League (WCSSL). Since then the organisers wanted to introduce the game to other parts of the Western Cape. One of the objectives of the WCSSL was to bring the game to all areas in the Drakenstein. Several meetings have already been held with representatives from the WCCSSL, representatives of the provincial department of sport, soccer representatives in Drakenstein as well as officials from Drakenstein municipality. It was agreed that the launch of the Street Football League would take place on Sunday at the Dal Josaphat sports grounds from 09:00 to 18:00. The Provincial Department of Sport also want to start a Roll-out program in all areas of Drakenstein using the Football Ambassadors as coaches. This initiative could also be used to promote Paarl as Base camp for 2010. This initiative truly has the potential to use Street Football as a tool for prevention of many anti-social and drug related problems in the community.
