Taxi wage fixed

FROM 1 July, the taxi industry will be subject to requirements for minimum wages and conditions of employment set by the Department of Labour.
Taxi sector employees include taxi drivers, administrative staff, rank marshals (who manage allocation of passengers according to an agreed roster at the rank), employees employed to clean vehicles and employees who check and collect fees from passengers and who manage loading.
Minimum wages from 1 July with set increases for two years for drivers and administrative assistants are R1 350 per month (R311,56 per week or R6,49 per hour).
Rank Marshals must be paid at least R1080,00 per month (R249,24 per week or R5,19 per hour)
Other workers must be paid R945,00 per month, or R218,09 per week or R4,54 per hour.
Employees who work 48 hours per week must be paid at least the monthly wage prescribed. Employees who work less than 48 hours per week must be paid at least the hourly rate.
Employees may be paid in cash, cheque or by direct deposit ito a bank account designated by the employee on the normal payday.
A work week consists of 48 hours in any week with a maximum of 10 hours on any day.
