MELISSA HEWITT from La Rochelle Girls’ High was chosen as one of the youth athletes from the Southern region countries to compete at the annual Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) in the Southern Region Youth track and field championships this past weekend.

The championship took place in Pretoria.

A total of 164 athletes from ten Southern Region countries entered for the championships.

Melissa competed in the 100m event and walked away with the 1st place (12,13 seconds). She also ran the medley relay for Team SA and won a gold medal.

Countries who were represented at this event were South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Mauritius, Seychelles, Swaziland and Zambia.
