A FRANSCHHOEK resident has won the Entrepreneurs Award at the Western Cape Regional Achievers Awards.
The awards in four categories (start-up, entrepreneur, professional and corporate) were presented at a glittering gala evening presented by the Businesswoman’s Assocation on 14 June in Cape Town.
The entrepreneur award recognises women who have profitable businesses and have been operating successfully for more than three years, with a turnover in excess of R500 000 per annum.
The award was presented to Susan Huxter, the owner of Le Quartier Francais, consisting of a hotel, deli, restaurant and gift shop in Franschhoek.
Le Quartier Francais has won more than 20 awards over the last five years, and this year has gained international recognition once more by winning the Best Small Hotel for 2005 (named by the UK Tattler).
In addition to this, the restaurant has been named the Best Restaurant in Africa and the Middle East, plus Top 50 in the World by the UK based Restaurant Magazine.
Susan is directly involved in the management functions, as well as making all strategic decisions.
She says, “Who wouldn’t love a life that allows you to develop local talent, eat great food, shop for a shop, watch movies, sleep in great beds, decorate rooms and meet fascinating people?”
The company is constantly changing, so it’s anyone’s guess as to what comes next.
“Just keep watching, you’ll never know!” says Susan.
