HOT on the heels of its exciting gold medal win recently awarded by Swiss International Airlines, Plaisir de Merle has now received yet another gold medal for its same Cabernet Sauvignon 2005.
Obviously an out and out winner, this Cabernet Sauvignon vintage has again been named ‘tops’ in its category at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles.
Cellarmaster Niel Bester has really put Plaisir de Merle on the map when it comes to internationally sought-after wines.
Only last month Plaisir de Merle was honoured overseas at Quebec’s Gastronomic Festival, for its Cabernet Sauvignon 2004. This time the vintage earned a gold medal in its category in the Cup of Nations 2008.
The 2008 Concours Mondial de Bruxelles is a highly-regarded professional competition aimed at selecting the very best wines and spirits produced worldwide.
Over 6 000 wines were tasted by some 240 expert judges.
From South Africa almost 200 samples were presented and a total 73 medals received in all.
For Plaisir de Merle, winning gold again was another huge success.
Cellarmaster Niel Bester is fond of saying: “I like to make wines that will be internationally acceptable,” and it seems his ambition is taking off fast.”
Set against the slopes of the Simonsberg, Plaisir de Merle has a French Huguenot history dating back 300 years, and with its new tasting venue, it encompasses all aspects of a classically elegant era.
