THE Drakenstein Municipality is inviting tenders to bid for the upgrading of the Dal Josaphat sport facilities.

The closing date for tenders is 12 June at 10:00.

Bids will be opened in the council chambers, 1st floor, Municipal Offices, Berg River Boulevard, Paarl.

The municipality will upgrade four stadiums in Paarl and the surrounding areas as part of the preparations for the 2010 Soccer World Cup.

The upgrading of Dal Josaphat stadium includes the upgrading of the storeroom, changing room, toilets and the seating arrangements, the widening of the entrance and the ticket-box, patching up of the stadium building and the upgrading of the wall on the Groenheuwel side and the building of a VIP-entrance on the Groenheuwel side of the stadium. The windows and the current pavillion will also be upgraded.

To upgrade Dal Josaphat stadium will cost the municipality an estimated R5 million.

According to Khaya Mrali, director of co-operate services at the municipality, the Dal Josaphat stadium should be completed by January.

Upgrading of the Mbekweni stadium is scheduled for the beginning of next year and is also estimated at R5 million. Work on the Faure Street stadium and Weltevrede stadium will follow.
