THE Nederburg Manor House once again beckons music lovers and those who appreciate the finer things in life to enjoy performances by top international and local musicians at the annual Nederburg Concert Series. Aside from listening to sublime music played by artists of international repute, guest can enjoy a delicious finger supper and exceptional Nederburg wines after the recital in one of the Cape’s most beautifully appointed historic homesteads. In a break from tradition, this year’s Concert Series begins with two concerts in June 2008. The inaugural concert on 1 June sees a performance by the American-based Manhattan Piano Trio, while the second concert takes place on 22 June and features one of South Africa’s finest classical music ensembles, Collage. The Manhattan Piano Trio comprises Milana Strezeva on piano, Dimitry Lukin on violin and Dimitry Kouzov on cello. They will play Beethoven’s Trio No. 4 in B flat major, Op. 11, Debussy’s Trio in G major, Arensky’s Trio in D minor and Shostakovich’s Jazz Suite No 1. Homegrown ensemble, Collage, comprising four of South Africa’s finest classical artists, takes to the stage of the Nederburg recital room on 22 June. Marietjie Pauw (flute), Anmari van der Westhuizen (cello), Benjamin van Eeden (piano) and soprano Marianne Serfontein have performed together for 11 years and appear regularly in the Western Cape, as well as at the National Arts Festival and the KKNK. They perform contemporary and South African works and their Nederburg programme will feature works by JCF Bach, JN Hummel, Puccini and Hendrik Hofmeyer among other composers. Up and coming local tenor, Given Nkosi will be accompanied by one of the country’s finest pianists, Victor Trichard on 27 June. Nkosi will sing traditional German, Italian and English songs and some favourite opera arias. Tickets for the chamber music concerts are R125, which includes the finger supper served with fine Nederburg wines.
