More tyres slashed at the local gym in Paarl
2008-06-12
ANOTHER gym tyre” were the words I was welcomed with by the assistant at a local tyre retailer on Wednesday. My fourth flat tyre in a month. Parking at Virgin Active gym in Paarl is becoming more and more a chess game between members and the “guards” patrolling the parking areas around it. I phoned the police and was promised I would be contacted by an officer before end of business, but the chances of getting another flat was greater than the police contacting me to follow up on a complaint. On contacting the gym, I was told by the manager that I have not been the only victim - other members and staff have also fallen prey to these vandalists. Someone outside Virgin Active is busy with criminal behaviour. I ask again for the South African Police Service to please remove these criminals to prevent any future retribution from taking place. And I ask for Virgin to step up and protect not just their property, but the peace of mind of their loyal members. Devon Adams A spokesperson for Virgin Active replies: We take security matters very seriously and sincerely regret that any members have been inconvenienced in any way. We have negotiated a free 90 minute parking period for our patrons at Van der Lingen Square and are continually trying to assist with security outside our premises for members. However it needs to be made clear that vehicles parked in a public area are not the responsibility of Virgin Active. We continually work with the SA Police Service to try improving security.
