THE new by-law on outdoor advertising and signage was recently approved to Drakenstein, updating and combining the by-laws which were previously in force in Paarl, Wellington and the rural area.

The by-law specifies the size and position of advertising signs and billboards, which may not be erected before permission has been obtained from the Municipality. An application fee is payable.

Approval is not required for construction development boards, To Let/For Sale signs, business signs on own building (one per business not exceeding 0,2 sq metres indicating the type of trade), window signs, security signs, and advertising on vehicles if they conform to the bylaw.

The Municipality has instituted a grace period until 29 August - during this period signs erected without permission can be submitted without penalties. For enquiries, phone 807-4525/4820/4823 or 873-1121.
