AT the annual Pinotage tasting of Wine magazine published in their May edition, the wine which was rated best value was the Bovlei Pinotage 2005. The same wine received a gold medal at Michelangelo International Wine Awards.
The wine, which costs only R26 at the cellar, received three stars. The average price of the wines that received three stars at the tasting was R76, while the average price of wines that received two stars was R66.
The Bovlei Beaukett (non-vintage semi-sweet wine) was recently selected as the best out of 19 entries by the panel of the Wine-of-the-Month club. The cellar price is R20 per bottle.
Bovlei is one of the first South African wine cellars which has become intensively involved in the market in Thailand, although it is not easy, as 420% tax is paid on imported wines. Their new focus is neighbouring country Vietnam.
In the last few years both these countries have drastically grown as tourism destinations.
