THANKS to an entire community’s support and enthusiasim plus considerable funding frombusiness, a 20-year- old vision has finally become a reality in Groendal, Franschhoek.
Archie Jefthas has carried the dream for a community centre in his heart since 1988 and recently the dream was realised when the Lord’s Acre Christian Community Centre opened in Groendal, Franshchoek.
Jefthas said that for the last 30 years he had been working in the local farming community and was thrilled to finally have a base from which to work and train people in projects that are focused on child and youth development and poverty alleviation.
The centre boasts a large central hall where they aim to provide, music, dance an drama training, lifeskills programmes, a day care centre, soup kitchen, small computer centre, legal aid, meeting place for senior citizens, a meeting place for teenagers and 24-hour trauma counselling for abused women and children as well as classes in upholstering.
