I would be ashamed to put my photo alongside the adverts of the Cape Winelands District as in the Paarl Post (12 July), regarding “a bud-get dedicated to alleviating the plight of the poor, especially farmworkers”.
Meneer, klim ’n slag in jou kar en gaan kyk na ‘die arme plaaswerkers’ wat woon in baie beter omstandighede as honderde plakkers in die Wynland-streek.
Daar is geen broodsgebrek, ongeskoolde kinders of bedelaars onder die plaaswerkers nie. Water en sanitasie word vir hulle kosteloos voorsien sowel as vervoer na die winkels en hospitaal ook.
Julle het regtig geen idee waarvan jul praat nie. Julle wil net die boerderypraktyk ruďneer.
Factories, shops and bussinesses are retrenching workers left, right and centre, but if a farmer gives notice to a labourer because he does not toe the line or works unsatisfactorily, a hue and a cry goes up!
