I WAS very disgusted with what I saw at Huguenot train station on Sunday 13 July.
I don’t want to sound racist, but I would like MetroRail and the Railway Police to answer this question: “Do white people have more rights or privileges than other races in South Africa?”
On the day I mentioned above, I took a local train from Mbekweni station to Huguenot station.
I could not believe what I saw outside the station on the parking area right in front of the ticket office.
There was a big group of white youths who were drinking alcohol very heavily and publicly.
They were wearing black and white rugby kit, others maroon and white.
There were lots of beer, wines, all sorts of alcohol displayed publicly.
The Railway Police were just watching as if they were their body guards.
I went on to do my business, but when I came back, I was more shocked when these guys were on the platform, still drinking alcohol while security personnel were watching as if they were watching Isidingo or Sewende Laan, or maybe Generations - doing nothing about that.
I thought in South Africa it was “illegal” to drink in public.
I would like to know, was this lenient treatment because they were white?
