THE magnificent Paarl farm owned by former State President and Nobel Peace Prize winner FW de Klerk is for sale.
The mandate has also been awarded to the Paarl office of Lew Geffen Sotheby’s International Realty.
Set on the banks of the Wildepaardejacht River on the slopes of the Klein Drakenstein Mountains, the farm is some 82ha in extent and boasts an historic homestead dating back to the 1800’s, but restored in 1995.
It has been priced at R35 million.
“We are honoured to have this listing,” says Lew Geffen, chairman of Sotheby’s International Realty in SA.
“It reflects the trust placed in our expertise as brokers of the finest properties worldwide, and recognition of our national footprint. In addition President de Klerk is one of my personal heroes, along with President Mandela.”
The thatched manor house on the farm is about 280m˛ in extent and well positioned on a viewpoint, facing north and overlooking the Paarl Valley and surrounding mountains.
It is complemented by a large swimming pool and well-established garden.
Other buildings in the homestead include a thatched Cape barn with two en-suite guest rooms and en-suite bachelor accommodation, as well as a two-bedroom manager’s cottage, staff houses, pool room, double garage and shed.
The farm has also been well developed.
It has about 14ha of vineyards and another 7ha of olive and fruit orchards, with about 3ha of fallow land suitable for further planting of grapes, buchu or proteas.
A mountain area totalling some 49ha is currently being cleared of alien vegetation and pine forest and is covered with fynbos.
There are three strong springs that feed two dams on the property, while domestic water is supplied by a borehole.
“Overall this property is an excellent proposition as a lifestyle purchase,” says Danie Hauptfleisch of Lew Geffen Sotheby’s International Realty in Paarl.
“We expect it to attract a lot of attention among both local and international buyers
