Drug bust
2008-07-24
MEMBERS of Paarl police made a huge breakthrough in the drug world this week, when a massive drug bust was made. After anonymous information was received in the early hours of Monday morning about a consignment of dagga which was heading in the direction of Paarl, Paarl police officials, as well as the dog unit, set out for Du Toit’s Kloof Pass. They were on the lookout for two trucks which were on their way from Beaufort West to a rendezvous point on the mountain. After surveying the area, a bakkie and a Toyota Venture were pulled off the road and five large bags of dagga seized. Another suspicious vehicle was pulled off the road after this, and more bags of dagga were confiscated. In total, 12 large bags containing dagga were seized with a total weight of 201kg. The dagga presumably originates from the Eastern Cape, and Du Toit’s Kloof was the chosen place for distribution to dealers. Seven men from Guguletu and Delft were arrested. A spokesperson of Paarl police said that this was a highly successful action by local police members.
