Madiba’s birthday bash started at Drakenstein Prison with a 06:00 ‘Morning Live’ broadcast from the house where Mandela was held in custody after he was transferred from detention on Robben Island. The house is now in the pro- cess of being transformed into a museum. On Friday evening the guest list for a gala dinner included Ngcone Balfour (the Minister of Correctional Services), Ebrahim Rasool (the Premier of the Western Cape), executives of Drakenstein Municipality and Cape Winelands District Municipality. Well-known ANC veteran, Tokyo Sexwale, and former Minister of Sport, Zolo Yeye, were also at the celebrations. The guests were entertained by three choirs from Correctional Services as well as the four-year-old drummer Danny Petersen, along with singers from the Cultivaria Festival.
