2008-07-31

FROM 25 to 28 September, Paarl will be transformed into the centre of the South African entertainment industry for the third annual Cultivaria arts festival.

The fastest growing arts festival in the country will kick off in spectacular style with the Bovril black-tie dinner on Thursday 25 September.

Glamorous TV producer and presenter Doreen Morris of Glitterati and Paul Rothman of Pasella will be the hosts for the evening and top acts such as Kevin Leo and The Voices, Mathys Roets and the cross-over musical ensemble Sterling will entertain dinner guests.

Popular artists such as Chris Chameleon, Mathys Roets, Juanita du Plessis, Kevin Leo and the Voices, Nataniël, Nianell and Rocco de Villiers are bound to have audiences on their feet.

Doyenne of the South African music scene, Amanda Strydom, returns for one of her rare appearances on Cape stages, while the Bala Brothers are set to entrance audiences again with their unique fusion sounds ranging from kwaito to the classics.

Popular comedians such as Dowwe Dolla, Marion Holm en Frank Opperman will make audiences laugh out loud. The ever-popular

Hannes Mulder returns with the sell-out version of Groet die Grotman, but this time festival-goers can also see the flip side of the gender saga with Karen Wessels’s Groet die Grotvrou.

The musical extravaganza Timeless III returns to stage featuring Rina Hugo, André Schwartz, Jannie Moolman and Arina de Witt performing classic movie theme songs from big screen hits.

Singing sensation Kevin Leo and the Voices will add their magical talents to the Timeless cast. Timeless premières in the KWV Town Hall on Friday 26 September at 20:45.

Youngsters have also been catered for with the Liquifruit Barney’s children’s theatre and playground. Offering strict security and supervision, theatre staff will keep the little ones occupied, while the grown-ups enjoy their shows. Fabulous entertainment suitable for children between 4 to 12 will be presented throughout the day. Don’t miss puppeteers, clowns, snake demonstrations, live shows and the SA National Circus in action.

Art lovers should not miss the Cultivaria FNB Private Clients De Kat Art Exhibition, which will feature a collection of works by top local and international artists. Aptly named Imagination, Direction and Colour, this visual feast will be curated by Sihan Wiid and represents a group of artists, who promise to challenge the imagination of the viewer with an excitement of colour and dynamic new directions in art.

The main exhibition will be hosted in the historic KWV Cathedral Cellar where the worldrenowned Big Five Vats (largest upright vats in the world) and high, dome-shaped ceiling will provide the perfect showcase for top creative talents.

The exhibition will extend into the centre of town to La Rochelle’s school hall where a selection of emerging artists, digital designers, jewellery designers and photographers will feature their works.

The search for talent will be extended to local schools and art schools for entries of sculptures using mixed media to depict the phrase “Pollie ons gaan Pêrel toe!’

These art works will be on show at Die Burger emporium from 26 September to 28 September.

Bookings are now open on-line at www.cultivaria.com (credit card payments only) or call 021-872-9754.
