15 years for young burglars
2008-07-31
PAARL detective Insp Karel Rossouw can be a very proud police officer today, after the successful 15 year conviction of two youngsters in connection with a burglary. Siphiwe Vindisa (19) of Fairyland and Thembikosi Mbelu (20) of Phillipi were jailed last week after being found guilty of robbing an elderly woman in De Zoete Inval, Paarl South, last year. The conviction stem from a burglary at 71 New Eskdale Street in July last year, when two young men entered the premises while the elderly owner, Mercia Bouwer, was busy in the house. They gained access to the home through the bathroom window. Bouwer recognised this youngster as the son of a woman who worked for her. While the suspects were busy looting the house, Bouwer managed to free herself, and was able to press the panic button. The suspects fled the scene, but were quickly apprehended by the police. All the stolen goods were retrieved. A spokesperson for the police commended Rossouw for excellent investigative work, which led to the successful conviction of the two men.
