IN the exhibition This or Us opening at Off the Wall gallery in Paarl today, paintings and sculptures speak a global language. Participating artists are Dylan T Graham, Cobus Haupt and Sarel Petrus and Marvelous World (Paul Cooper, Sarel Petrus, Guy du Toit and Richard John Forbes). Artworks are synonyms for difficult to explain human conditions, says curator Wendy Roux. “Rather than going into long, serious, open ended discussions about human experience, we create concrete objects in a traditional western art language.” As the ‘or’ in the title suggests, there is always at least one alternative to what is in front of you, or your viewpoint thereof, and these artworks are substitutable with our, and your, ideas on life. The exhibition at Off the Wall gallery in Paarl runs until 31 September.
