THE Frank Pietersen Music Centre will present its annual Gala Concert in the Paarl Town Hall Saturday at 19:00.

At this event the centre will be showcasing its diversity. The Junior Youth Orchestra of more than seventy young instrumentalists will open the evening.

They are a combination of the Junior and Intermediate String Ensembles as well as the Junior Windband.

Other groups performing will be the Senior Strings, the Senior Windband and the Youth Orchestra as well as various choirs.

This year saw the formation of a new children’s choir at the Centre, conducted by Caren Bosman. This choir was chosen from many applicants from Paarl and Wellington Primary Schools.

The choir featuring some of Drakensteins most beautiful children’s voices will also be singing at the Gala Concert on Saturday night.

Klein Nederburg Secondary School’s choir will be guest performers at this concert and they will be joined by the adult choir and children’s choir in a performance of the well-known Xhosa song “Thula Thula”.

This song was specially arranged for the Frank Pietersen Ensemble which toured to Germany in 2007 by Chris Jeffery and was rearranged for Orchestra, African Percussion and Choir.

The evening has lots of variety and will have something for old and young to enjoy.

There will be music by Corelli, Beethoven and Tchaikovsy and film music (Alladin) and Laurika Rauch’s “Blouberg se strand”.

Well-known Paarl soprano Jo-Nette le Kay, the new singing teacher at the Frank Pietersen Music Centre, will also perform.

Tickets are R40, R20 for pensioners and R10 for learners. Call 021-872-2123/4.
